The Family of Samuel Barrows and Azuba Ransom

The Family of
Samuel Barrows and Azuba Ransom

Samuel Barrows, son of Samuel Barrows and Barbara Anderson, was born in 1764 at Middleboro, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He and Azuba Ransom were married 16 Feb 1791 at Woodstock, Vermont by Justice Jabez Cotle. He died 14 March 1842 at Russel, St. Lawrence County, New York. His burial site has not been found.

From 1781 to 1784, he served first with the 10th Regiment and then with the 5th Regiment of the Massachusetts line. After the War, he removed to Woodstock, Vermont where he married, started his family, and remained through 1810. By 1818, however, he relocated to Jefferson County, New York where he lived at least until 1833 when he sold property to Rev. Hezekiah Field.

Azuba Ransom, daughter of George Ransom and Anna Tiffany, was born 2 July 1773 at Lyme, New London County, Connecticut. She and Samuel Barrows were married 16 Feb 1791 at Woodstock, Vermont by Justice Jabez Cotle. She died 2 Feb. 1848 in Jefferson County, New York. Her burial site has not been found.

After her husband's death, she was living in Hounsfield, and documents make it clear she was not very well. She probably remained there up until 1846 when some property is bought in her name in Williamstown, Pamelia Township. This property was sold 10 days after her death, so presumably this is where she lived her final years.

Children of Samuel Barrows and Azuba Ransom were as follows:
