FORMER FOX HUNTERS TO BE HONORED AT PONY SHOW SEPT. 9

The fall show of the Gloucester Pony Club will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9 beginning at 10 A.M. at Botetourt School.  The program will honor Gloucester fox hunters of the late nineteenth century, a spokesman for the organization said. Each class will be dedicated to the memory of one outstanding fox hunter of that period and the winning trophy will be awarded by a member of his family.

Those to be honored include:  Joseph Bryan of "Eagle Point," Naxera; Dr. Thomas Clopton of "Havers Hall," Belroi; Albert Eastwood of Singpine; John Farinholt of Freeport; Charles Jones of "Cedar Hill," Gloucester; Richard Jones of "Lands Eng," Naxera; Goodall A. Minor of Bena; Mrs. Blanche Dimmock Noland of "Sherwood," Selden; Capt. Richard Page of "Greenway" and "Shelly," Coke; Maj. Jefferson Sinclair and son Ashton Wray Sinclair of "Marifield," Naxera; James Jefferson Sinclair, "Bay Cottage," Naxera, James Lyons Taliaferro of "Church Hill," Gloucester; Timothy W. Thrift of Woods Cross Roads; Robert Wilkins of "Enfield," Sassafras; and Mrs. Katherine Vandegrift Withers of "Sevenby," Naxera.

Mrs. Elizabeth Mott and Miss Indie Sinclair are co-chairmen of the show.  They state that the fox hunting tradition still goes on in Gloucester but in a very different style.  "Gone are the days of riding ten miles to the casting grounds, accompanied by the hounds on foot - hunting for eight hours and riding home.  Now it is trucks for the hounds and trailers and vans for the horses.  An easy hunting life.!
