Descendants of James and Elizabeth Pritchard Estep

Here are the first three generations of the James Estep family in America. After arriving from Wales in 1858, James and his family finally settled on Armania Mt. in the area of the village of Covert in Tioga Co. PA. James and his sons were coal miners. His daughter Sarah married Eleazer Jones who owned much of the coal mine land in this area.

1. James Estep. James was born 12 May 1818 in Wales. He died 3 Aug 1901 and is buried in Arbon Cemetery in Blossburg, PA. He married Elizabeth Pritchard in 1848 in Wales. She was born 16 Aug 1826 in Breckenshire, Wales. Elizabeth died in 1912 in Corning, NY. She was buried 30 May 1912 in Arbon Cemetery, Blossburg, PA. They had the following children:

8. Rebecca Estep. Born 1861 in Bloomsburg, PA. Died during childbirth, son Wm., bur. Antrim. She married Jake Carlson. Died Before 24 Nov 1898. After Rebecca died, Jake married the widow of James Estep, Jannie Estep, his sister-in-law. They had a son, Carl, born Nov. 24, 1898, but poor Jake died before this child was born, so the boy was raised with the Estep name. They had the following children:

9. George Estep. Born 1863 in Bloomsburg, PA. Died Circa 1880.

10. Charles Shafer Estep. Born 5 Feb 1865 in Bloomsburg, PA. Died 9 Feb 1943 in Bradford Co., PA. Buried in East Troy Cemetary, Troy, PA.
He married Helen Florence Scott (her ancestors are pure New England and reach back to the Mayflower and England), 3 Dec 1883. Born 5 Nov 1860. Died 13 Aug 1930. They had the following children:
