The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Longside, 1621-1819, Page 169 "January 23rd (1791) (No.) 4 Thomas, Son to James Cheyne and Katharine Daniel at Lint Mill of Rora".1

Thomas Cheyne married Elizabeth McWilliam 28 August 1814, in Old Deer Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.2

The baptismal record of Katherine Cheyne documented Thomas Cheyne, in Nether Kinmundy, as her father, 23 April 1815, at Nether Kinmundy, in Longside Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. [N.B.--Conflicted evidence, his Ship's Master Application had his date of birth as 5 May 1822 in Peterhead.]5,6

Thomas Cheyne was listed on the 1841 Scotland Census at Union Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. Also present were his sons, Thomas (993), William (994) and James (995) Cheynes. They were all listed as seamen on an enumeration district of only seamen.8

Thomas Cheyne witnessed the christening of his granddaughter, Elizabeth McWilliam Cheyne, on 7 August 1843, at Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 198, "August 7th (1843) Thomas Cheyne (993), Seaman in Peterhead had a daughter, born 27th July, baptized and named Elizabeth McWilliam (1004), before Will'm Mess & Tho's Cheyne (986).”.9

Thomas Cheyne and James Milne were witnesses at the Christening of James Cheyne, 11 December 1845, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 247, "December 11th (1845) Thomas Cheyne (993), Seaman, in Peterhead & Agnes Milne (1003) his wife, had a son, born 3rd baptized and named James (1005), before James Milne (1001) & Thomas Cheyne (986)”..10

Thomas Cheyne witnessed the christening of his granddaughter, Ann Wilson, on 21 September 1848, at Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 297, "September 21st (1848) James Wilson (3377), Seaman, in Peterhead and Betty Cheyne (996) his wife had a daughter born 10th baptized and named Ann (3378), before Alexander Wilson and Thomas Cheyne (986)"..11

Thomas Cheyne and James Milne were witnesses at the Christening of Agnes Cheyne, 23 December 1848, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 303, "December 23rd (1848) Thomas Cheyne (993), Shipmaster in Peterhead & Agnes Cheyne (1003) his wife had a daughter born 22nd Sept'r, baptized and named Agnes (1007), before James Milne (1001) and Thomas Cheyne (986)”..12

Thomas Cheyne witnessed the christening of his grandson, Alexander Wilson, on 13 September 1850, at Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 337, "September 13th (1850) James Wilson (3377), Seaman, in Peterhead and Elizabeth Cheyne (996) his wife had a son born 1st baptized and named Alexander (3379) before Alexander Wilson and Thomas Cheyne (986)"..13

Thomas Cheyne and his wife Elizabeth Cheyne were listed on the 1851 Scotland Census, at James Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a retired seaman. Also present was his child, Robert Smith Cheyne. In addition, two visitors, Alex'r. J. and John C. Stevenson (parentage unknown), both scholars, were also present. Thomas was listed as 60 and born in Longside Parish.14

Thomas Cheyne witnessed the christening of his granddaughter, Ann Cheyne, on 22 March 1852, at Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 371, "March 22nd (1852) James Cheyne (995), Seaman, in Peterhead, and Ann Mearns (1008), his wife, had a daughter, born 4th baptized and named Ann (1010), before Thomas Cheyne (986) and Alexander Webster.”.15

Thomas Cheyne died 7 May 1853 at 4 James Street in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.16,17

Thomas Cheyne was listed as a deceased sailor on the marriage record of his daughter Christian Cheyne and William Mutch, on 1 November 1863; Church of Scotland.19
