     John Cheyne was baptized in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, 1 August 1853, at Everton, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1820-1854, Page 120 "August 1st, 1853 William Cheyne in Evertown, had a had a Son by his Wife Mary Henderson, named John."1

Charlotte Cheyne, Mary Cheyne, Alexander Cheyne, Sarah Cheyne, John Cheyne, Jane Cheyne, Ann Cheyne and David Cheyne were listed as children in the household of William Cheyne and his wife, Mary Cheyne on the 1861 Scotland Census, at Bodiechell, in Millbrex Quoad Sacra Parish of Fyvie, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was listed as age 7, born in Fyvie Parish and a scholar.2

John Cheyne was a witness at the marriage of his brother, Alexander Cheyne and Margaret Cheyne, 27 December 1879, at Greeness, in Monquhitter Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; Free Church of Scotland.3

John Cheyne was in the household of Sarah Thom and listed as brother on the 1881 Scotland Census, at Spital Number 57, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was also listed as unmarried and employed as a journeyman joiner. Also present was, his brother, Alexander Cheyne (903).4

John Cheyne married Jeannie Birnie 17 September 1881, in accordance with the procedures of the Established Church of Scotland, at Rosemount Church, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was twenty eight years of age, a bachelor and journeyman joiner, residing at 26 Thomson Street, Aberdeen. The ceremony was officiated by James Leask, minister of the Rosemount Church, Aberdeen, and witnessed by Betsy McKenzie, probably her sister, and David Cheyne (909), his brother. His parents were confirmed to be as recorded herein.5

John Cheyne apparently adopted his wife's earlier son, John Sutherland Birnie. The younger John was consistantly found on official documents with a surname of Cheyne..6

John Cheyne (906) and George Cheyne (12600) were probably related. Both were journeyman joiners and both lived, in 1891, at 5 and 14 Northfield Place, in Aberdeen. John had a brother George, but he was a tailor.7

John Cheyne and his wife Jeannie Cheyne were listed on the 1891 Scotland Census, at 54 Esslemont Avenue, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a joiner. Also present were his children, John S. B. Cheyne, William J. Cheyne, Robert M. Cheyne and Jessie Birnie Cheyne. He was listed as 37 years of age and born in Fyvie.8

John Cheyne, journeyman joiner, recorded the birth of his son, James Tulloch Cheyne, on 17 October 1891, in 5 Northfield Place, Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; at 4:00 AM.9

John Cheyne and his wife Jeannie Cheyne were listed on the 1901 Scotland Census, at 200 Rosemount Place, in Aberdeen, Rosemount, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a joiner. Also present was his child, James T. Cheyne. John was listed as 47 years of age and born in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen.10

John Cheyne and Jeannie Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 18 May 1913, at Quebec, Quebec, Canada. They were steerage passengers aboard the Hesperian, out of Glasgow. He was 58 years old and a carpenter. She was 56 and a housewife. Neither had been previously in Canada. Both were born in Scotland, Church of Scotland and joining their son, James, a clerk, in Winnipeg.11
