     George Lyall Cheyne was born, 24 January 1873, in Edinburgh Parish, Midlothian, Scotland.1,2

Isabella B. Chiene, George L. Chiene, Hall C. Chiene and Fanny Chiene were listed as children in the household of Elizabeth M. Chiene on the 1881 Scotland Census, at 21 Ainslie Place, in Edinburgh, Saint Cuthberts Parish, Midlothian, Scotland. He was also listed as a scholar.3

Isabella B. Chiene, George L. Chiene, Hall C. Chiene and Fanny Chiene were listed as children in the household of John Chiene and his wife, Elizabeth M. Chiene on the 1891 Scotland Census, at 26 Charlotte Square, in Edinburgh, Saint George Parish, Midlothian, Scotland. He was 18 years of age, born in Edinburgh and a scholar.4

George Lyall Chiene was listed in The Medical Register of the United Kingdom, 1903, 1907, 1915 and 1919 as first registered on 31 July 1897. He graduated from Edinburgh University M.B. Master Sugeon 1897 and was a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1901.5

George L. Chiene was found in the household of John Cheyne and his wife, Elizabeth M. Chiene, and listed as their son on the 1901 Scotland Census at Marketgate House, in Crail Parish, Fife, Scotland. He was 28 years of age, born in Edinburgh and a duly registered Practitioner of Surgery. His future wife, Elaine Somerville Turcan, was present and listed as a visitor.2

He graduated in 1897 and was formerly Additional Examiner in Surgery at Aberdeen University, Assistant Surgeon, Edinburgh and East of Scotland South Africa Hospital, 1899. He was Assistant Surgeon, Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh in 1901; Consulting Surgeon, Edinburgh Royal Infirmary; Ex-President, Medico-Chirurgical of Edinburgh; Edinburgh University Union and Royal Medical Society. Served during the Great War; Temporary Major, B.E.F., France; Captain and Scottish Hospital. Author of Handbook of Surgery, 1923; Surgical Section (conjointly with Mr. Wallace) of East of Scotland South African Report; Preliminary Operation for Uncomplicated Oblique Inguinal Hernia in Young Adults, British Medical Journal, 16th November 1907; Illustrated Clinical Lecture on Congenital Torticollis, Medical Press and Circular, March 1911; Case of Ruptured Very Early Primary Ovarian Pregnancy, Edinburgh Medical Journal, April 1913; and, An Operation for Large Mid-Line Ventral Hernia, ibid., 1930.8

George Lyall Chiene died 19 November 1951.10

His estate was probated on 25 January 1952 at London, England.11
