James Cheyne was baptized in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, 4 March 1852, at Macterry, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1820-1854, Page 115 "March 4th, 1852 George Cheyne in Macterry had a Son by his Wife Ann Gordon born on the 11th day of February & baptized the on the 4th day of March 1852, named James."1

Sarah Cheyne, George Cheyne, James Cheyne, William Cheyne, Alexander Cheyne and Mary Cheyne were listed as children in the household of George Cheyne and his wife, Ann Cheyne on the 1861 Scotland Census, at Deershill, in Millbrex Quoad Sacra Parish of Fyvie, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was listed as age 9, born in Fyvie Parish and a scholar.3

James Cheyne was listed on the 1871 Scotland Census at Blairfowl, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. James was a farm servant in the household of Alexander Gray, farmer of 313 acres. He was 19 years of age was born in Fyvie Parish.4

James Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 21 May 1872, at Quebec, Quebec, Canada. He was aboard the Germany, out of Liverpool. He was 20 years old, a farm servant and Scotch.5

James Cheyne was listed on the 1881 Canadian Census in Wellington Centre, Wellington, Ontario, Canada. He was farm labourer on the farm of George Cassy. He was 28 years old and born in Scotland. James Cheyne married Annie Morrison 12 October 1883, in Alma, Peel, Ontario, Canada. He was 31 years old, a bachelor, a farmer, was born in Scotland and resided in the North West Territories. His parents were confirmed to be as recorded herein.7

James Cheyne and his wife Annie Cheyne were listed on the 1891 Canadian Census, in Broadview, Assiniboia East District, Northwest Territories, Canada. He was head of household. Also present was his child, Barbara Cheyne. All were listed as Presbyterians. His brother John lived in the same town.. He was an employer, 41 years of age and born in Scotland.8

James Cheyne was listed on the 1901 Canadian Census, in Dalesboro, Assiniboia District, Northwest Territories, Canada. He was head of household and a widower and farmer. He was 47 years old, born in Scotland, had immigrated in 1872 and a Presbyterian. A a domestic servant was also present.9

James Cheyne married Sushanah (?).2
