James Cheyne

M, #8426, b. after 1766
FatherJames Cheyne 7th of Tangwick b. 23 Jan 1737, d. 19 Mar 1821
MotherAnn Gifford b. 1735, d. 16 Mar 1815
James Cheyne was born after 1766. There is no evidence of a James Cheyne being the son of James Cheyne 7th of Tangwick (2540). James will have a son, Andrew, who was the nephew of John Cheyne 8th of Tangwick and thus James would have been John's brother. This James was not mentioned in A. Y Cheyne or in Zetland Family Histories. That said he is, however, shown on the Shetland Family Website as the son of James Cheyne and Ann Gifford, born after 1766 and later proprietor of Ollaberry.1

John (not James) Cheyne was said to be the brother of the laird of Tangwick and grandfather of Sir William Watson Cheyne, on the website for Sir William Watson Cheyne. There was no mention of either John or James in A. Y. Cheyne, The Cheyne Family of Scotland.2,3

In November 1817. Andrew Cheyne (8427) was the illegitimate son of James Cheyne (8426) and Elizabeth Robertson. He was also the nephew of John Cheyne of Tangwick (2545), thus James was John's brother.4
