William L. Cheyne, Grierson Cheyne, Elizabeth Cheyne and Martha Cheyne were listed as children in the household of William Cheyne and his wife, Martha Cheyne on the 1871 Scotland Census, at Loch Side, in Lerwick & Gulberwick Parish, Shetland Islands, Scotland. She was 7 and born in Lerwick.⁷

Catherine Cheyne, William Laurence Cheyne, Elizabeth Cheyne and Martha Cheyne were listed as children in the household of William Cheyne and his wife, Martha Cheyne on the 1881 Scotland Census, at Charlotte Cottage, in Lerwick Parish, Shetland Islands, Scotland. She was employed as an apprentice dressmaker.⁸

The attached is a studio photograph of the family of William Cheyne and Martha Smith. All five of their children were present, but the only known child is Martha Cheyne in the back row. Her brother to her right was said to have liked his profile.⁹

Eliza. Cheyne and Hannah Anderson were found on a passenger list, dated 9 May 1893, at New York, New York, USA. Also present was their daughter Margaret Anderson. Hannah was on a Manifest of Passengers aboard the Ethiopia, out of Glasgow. She was 58 years of age, a dressmaker, born in Scotland, whose last address was Lerwick and whose destination was the San Francisco. She was traveling with her future daughter-in-law, Eliza. Cheyne and daughter, Margaret Anderson. They shared 5 pieces of luggage.¹¹

They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, Arthur Anderson, Andrew Anderson and Ruth Anderson. In addition, his mother, Hannah Anderson, was also present. They rented their home and had been married seven years and she had four children with three still living.. Elizabeth was listed as 35 years old, and born in November 1864 in Scotland. She had immigrated in 1883 (should have read 1893).²

They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, Arthur Anderson, Andrew Anderson, Ruth Anderson, Harold Anderson and Hannah Anderson. They had been married seventeen years and she had eight children with five still living.. Elizabeth was listed as 47 years old, and born in Scotland.³

Elizabeth Anderson and her husband, Arthur Anderson, were listed on the 1920 United States Census, at 3308 Maple Avenue, in Oakland, Alameda, California, USA. They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, Ruth Anderson, Harold Anderson and Margaret Anderson. The family owned their home.. Elizabeth was listed as 56 years old, and born in Scotland. She had immigrated in 1893 and became a naturalized citizen in 1914.⁴

Elizabeth Anderson was in the household of Donald A. Darling and his wife, Margaret Darling, and listed as mother-in-law on the 1930 United States Census, at 3728 Redding Street, in Oakland, Alameda, California, USA. She was listed as 66 years old, a widow and born in Scotland. She had first married at age 28.⁵

Elizabeth Cheyne died 12 January 1934 in California, USA.^13,14
