     William Cheyne was born, 20 September 1660, in Dyce Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.1,2

He graduated from Aberdeen University in 1672 and later received a Masters of Arts degree from King's College, 7 July 1677. The entry in Fasti Aberdonenses reads "Anno Domini 1672. In album collegii regil universitatisi Aberdonensis recpti sunt adolescentes quorum sequuntur nomini, sub moderamine Roberti Forbes...Gulielmus Chein, Aberdonensis...". The following page read "Accesserunt ann secundo, regente magistro Johanne Buchano ... Gullielmus Chein, Aberdonensis...". His entry in Officers and Graduates of University & King's College reads: "Julij 7, 1677. Lauream magisterialem adepti sunt '(promotore Joanne Buchan)' juvenes quorum sequuntur nomina... Mr. Gulielmus Cheyne, Aberdonensis...".3,4

William Cheyne Minister of the Parish of Carmichael was the son of William Cheyne, Minister of Dyce. His entry in Fasti stated that he had a brother Thomas. He earned his M.A. degree at King's College, Aberdeen, 7th July 1677, passed trials and was recommended for licence by the Presbytery of Ellon, 12th December 1683. He was presented to the Parish of Carmichael by James, Marquess of Douglas and admitted after 2nd September 1685.2,5

William Cheyne died October 1685. He died unmarried.6,5

He was mentioned in an abstracted entry on the The Commissariot Record of Stirling. Register of Testaments, 1607-1800. The entry reads: "Cheyne, Mr. William, minister at Carmichael, 29 Jan 1686".6
