A Robert Cheyne married Issobell Johnstoun, in 1654, and a Helen Johnstoun, in 1658. The question is: were there two different Roberts; or did one Robert marry Helen, after Issobell died? For now, I will go with the latter.

Robert Cheyne married Issobell Johnstoun 2 May 1654, in Dyce Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.1

Robert Cheyne married Helen Johnstoun 19 August 1658, in Dyce Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.2

In 1659 General George Monck was sent to Edinburgh by Cromwell to secure the peace of Scotland. He subsequently required that shires send representative to Edinburgh to meet with him. Among the noblemen, gentlemen and heritors of Aberdeenshire was Mr. Robert Cheyne of Carny. The assemblage voted that the Laird of Eight (Echt) be their voice.3

Robert Cheyne (7751) was mentioned in Tayler, The Valuation of the County of Aberdeen for the Year 1667 in an entry under the Parish of Kinellar, Presbytery of Aberdeen. The entry on page 328 reads as follows: "Mr. Robert Cheyne had sasine on "Wester Carny" in 1664, at which period he had a wife named Rebecca Johnston. [He was not in the 1672 list]".
The authors of the referred source implied that Robert was the son of Mr. William Cheyne, Minister of Dyce, but he would have only been two years old in 1664.4
