The family that follows is based solely on the IGI in Belhelvie Parish which lists five children of a James Cheyne from 1704 through 1721. No mother's name is shown. There was only one marriage of a James Cheyne in this time period. A James Cheyne married Elizabeth Forbes, in 1703, Foveran Parish. No children to a James Cheyne, in Foveran followed. Of the five children born to James Cheyne in Belhelvie, none were named Elizabeth.

On 17 September 1704. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Belhelvie, 1624-1762, Frame 42. “The said day (17 Sept’r 1704). James Chein in Cowhill had a daughter baptized called Margaret”.1

On 28 October 1706. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Belhelvie, 1624-1762, Frame 44. “28 October 1706. The said day being munday James Chein in Mony had a daughter baptized called Marjery”.1

On 17 February 1709. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Belhelvie, 1624-1762, Frame 48. “At Belhelvie, February 17 1709. The said day James Chein in Wellburn had a son baptized called Alex’r being Thursday a day of thanksgiving”.1

On 12 February 1712. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Belhelvie, 1624-1762, Frame 54. “At Belhelvie, Febr’y 12 1712. The s’d day James Chein in Wellburn had a daughter baptized called Jean at the examination”.1

On 22 March 1717. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Belhelvie, 1624-1762, Frame 2. “At Belhelvie, March 22d 1717. James Chein in Upper Wellburn had a daughter baptized called Elizabeth”.2

On 9 April 1721. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Belhelvie, 1624-1762, Frame 9. “At Belhelvie, Ap 9th 1721. The said day James Chein in Wellburn had a son baptized called James”.2

James Cheyne was named the father of the bride at the publication of marriage banns of Marjorie Cheyne and Andrew Mure on 15 August 1730 at Belhelvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Marriages, Parish of Belhelvie, 1716-1763, Frame 70. “At Belhelvie August 15 1730. The said day Andrew Mure in the paroch of Foveran and Marjory Chein daughter of James Chein in this paroch signified yr purpose of Marriage; James Smith in Cowhill Cau’r for the man and James Chein for his daughter; they consigned pledges and after proclaimation were married September 3d 1730”.3
