Cheyne, Forbes Cheyne, Joan Cheyne, James Cheyne, Helen Cheyne, Hugh Cheyne, Mary Jane Cheyne and Annie Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Alexander Cheyne and his wife, Jane Cheyne on the 1871 Scotland Census, at Upper Castle Street, in Cullen, Cullen Parish, Banff, Scotland. She was listed as 12 years of age and born in McDuff.3

Ellen Cheyne was listed on the 1881 England Census at 19 Gordon Place, in London, Kensington, Middlesex, England. She was as Ellen Cheyne, general servant, age 24, unmarried, born in Callen (Cullen, Banffshire), Scotland.4

The baptismal record of Alice Lavinia Frances Cheyne documented Helen Cheyne as the mother, 22 September 1889, in London, Saint Peter, Regent Square, Middlesex, England. Alice Lavinia Frances Cheyne was the illegitimate daughter of Ellen Cheyne and an unidentified father.5

Helen was in the household of Henry L. MARKS, artist, panter and sculptor, on the 1891 England Census, at 14 Hamilton Terrace, London, Marylebone, Middlesex, England. She was employed by him as a parlormaid. Her birthplace was listed as Cullen, Banffshire. Several of her siblings were also found in London in 1891.6
