     Forbes Cheyne was born, 3 November 1850, in MacDuff, Gamrie Parish, Banff, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Births, Parish of Gamrie, Volume 3, Village of Macduff, 1820-1854: "Cheyne, Forbes lawful son of Alexander Cheyne, Tailor, by his wife Jane Forbes was born 3 November 1850".1,2,3

Alexander Cheyne, Margaret Cheyne, John F. Cheyne, Jane A. Cheyne, Forbes Cheyne, Joan N. W. Cheyne, James Cheyne, Helen Cheyne and Hugh Laing Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Alexander Cheyne and his wife, Jane Cheyne on the 1861 Scotland Census, at Seafield Street, in Cullen, Cullen Parish, Banff, Scotland. He was a scholar.4

John F. Cheyne, Forbes Cheyne, Joan Cheyne, James Cheyne, Helen Cheyne, Hugh Cheyne, Mary Jane Cheyne and Annie Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Alexander Cheyne and his wife, Jane Cheyne on the 1871 Scotland Census, at Upper Castle Street, in Cullen, Cullen Parish, Banff, Scotland. He was listed as 20 years of age, born in McDuff and employed as a banker's clerk.5

Forbes Cheyne, Joan Nicholson Wilson Cheyne, James Cheyne, Hugh Laing Cheyne, Mary Jane Cheyne and Annie Jamieson Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Alexander Cheyne and his wife, Jane Cheyne on the 1881 Scotland Census, at Seafield Street, in Cullen, Cullen Parish, Banff, Scotland. He was unmarried, age 30, and employed in the Civil Service, Inland Revenue Department.6

He was found on a Register of Electors in Hammersmith Borough, London residing in a dwelling house at 17 Cumberland Avenue for 1890, 1891, 1892 and 1893.7,8,9,10

Forbes Cheyne was listed on the 1891 England Census, at 16 Cumberland Avenue, in Hammersmith, London, England. He was head of household. He was listed as employed in the Office of Inland Revenue. Also present in the household were two of his sisters, Joan N. Cheyne (7477) and Annie J. Cheyne (7482).11

An entry in Calendar of Confirmations and Inventories, 1917, reads as follows: Cheyne, Mary Jane, 25A Seafield Street, Cullen, died 14 November 1917, testate. Confirmation granted at Banff, 27 November, to Hugh Laing Cheyne, Merchant, and Forbes Cheyne, retired Officer of Customs and Excise,Clevelands, Glenburn Road, Bearsden, Glasgow, Executors nominated in Will or Deed, dated 26 June 1914, and recorded in Court Books of Commissariot of Banff, 27 November 1917. Value of Estate £206, 17s. 6d".12

Hugh Laing Cheyne and Forbes Cheyne was granted the probate of the estate of the deceased, Mary Jane Cheyne, 10 December 1917. The will of Mary Jane Cheyne was proved 10 December 1917. An abstract of it reads: Cheyne Mary Jane of 25a Seaforth Street, Cullen died 14 November 1917 Confirmation of Hugh Laing Cheyne merchant and Forbes Cheyne retired customs offcier. Sealed London 10 December"..13
