     Margaret Cheyne was born, 23 November 1843, in MacDuff, Gamrie Parish, Banff, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Births, Parish of Gamrie, Volume 3, Village of Macduff, 1820-1854: "Cheyne, Margaret lawful daughter of Alexander Cheyne, Tailor by his Wife Jane Forbes was born 23rd November 1843".1,2,3

Alexander Cheyne, Margaret Cheyne, John F. Cheyne, Jean Cheyne and Forbes Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Alexander Cheyne and his wife, Jane Cheyne on the 1851 Scotland Census, in MacDuff, Gamrie Parish, Banff, Scotland. She was a scholar.2

Alexander Cheyne, Margaret Cheyne, John F. Cheyne, Jane A. Cheyne, Forbes Cheyne, Joan N. W. Cheyne, James Cheyne, Helen Cheyne and Hugh Laing Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Alexander Cheyne and his wife, Jane Cheyne on the 1861 Scotland Census, at Seafield Street, in Cullen, Cullen Parish, Banff, Scotland. She was 17 years of age, born in the village of MacDuff and a scholar.4

Margaret Cheyne was listed on the 1871 England Census at 17 Kensington Gate, in London, Kensington, Middlesex, England. She was a servant in the household of John Bayly, Coronel, Royal Engineers. She was employed as a housemaid. She was 27 years of age and born in Scotland.5

Margaret Cheyne was listed on the 1881 England Census at 32 Portland Place, in London, Marylebone, Middlesex, England. She was listed as a servant of and in the household of George Lord Bingham, Lieut. Col. Army (Retired). She was a housemaid, age 35, born in Scotland. Her brother, James Cheyne (7478), will also be a servant to the same George Bingham in 1891. He will be listed as James McCheyne.6

Margaret Cheyne died 12 June 1881 in Laleham House, Middlesex, England.7

An entry in Calendar of Confirmations and Inventories, 1881, reads as follows: Cheyne, Margaret, 5 October--Confirmation of Margaret Cheyne, Domestic Servant, sometimes residing in Cullen, Parish of Cullen, County of Banff, who died 12 June 1881, at Laleham House, Middlesex, intestate, granted at Banff, to Alexander Cheyne, Tailor and Clothier, Cullen, Executor dative qua father. Value of Estate £77, 4s. 4d.7

Her estate was probated on 19 October 1881.8
