     Euphemia Cheyne was baptized in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, 4 October 1788, in Aberdeen, Saint Nicholas Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The entry in the Saint Nicholas, Register of Baptisms, 1771-1798, frame 193, (top of page) reads: "Aberdeen, October fourth 1788, Alexander Cheyne, Merch't & Elizabeth Bate, his wife, had a Dau'r born, named Euphemia, Baptized by the Rev'd Mr. George Abercrombie; George Strachan Keith of Affrosk, John Ewan, Merch't, Witnefses."1,2,3

Euphemia Cheyne married James Johnston 26 December 1810, in Aberdeen, Saint Nicholas Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. On the twenty sixth day of December one thousand eight hundred and ten years, by the Reverend Dr James Rofs one of the ministers of Aberdeen, were lawfully married in the bride's mother's house Loch head in the Parish of Old Machar, Mr James Johnston, Merchant in Aberdeen and Mifs euphemia cheyne there, daughter of the deceased Mr Alexander Cheyne Merchant in Aberdeen, in presence of these witnesses Charles Gordon Esquire Advocate in Aberdeen and Alexander Duguid Esquire Merchant there.4,5

4 September 1813. The entry in the Saint Nicholas, Register of Baptisms, Volume 11, 1810-1820, page 113, reads: "4 (September 1813), James Johnston, Manufacturer, and his Spouse Euphemia Cheyne, had a son born named Alexander Duguid, baptized by the Rev'd Mr. Kirkland, in presence of Alexander and Peter Duguid, Merchants."6,7

Mrs. J. Johnstone and James Johnstone were found on a passenger list, dated 11 August 1836, at New York, New York, USA. Also present were their children J. C. Johnstone, Agnes Johnstone, Robert Johnstone, Peter Johnstone, George Johnstone, John Johnstone and Eben. Johnstone. They were Cabin Class passengers aboard the Brig Cartha, James was a merchant, age 47 and Euphemia 48. All intended to remain in the United States. There was another family of Johnstones listed on the same page, only as steerage passengers.3

Euphemia Cheyne died 10 September 1838 in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada. Her obituary read: "Cheyne, Euphemia, born 1788, youngest daughter of Alexander Cheyne in Aberdeen, wife of James Johnston, late of Glasgow, died on Waverly Farm, Stanford Township, Drummondville, Upper Canada, 10-9-1838". Agnes Johnston was made heir to her mother Euphemia 26 June 1846. Her entry in Scottish American Heirs, 1683-1883 read:
"Number 1173, Johnston, Agnes, in Glasgow, heir to mo Euphemia Cheyne or Johnston, w of James Johnston in Boston USA, reg. 26 June 1846".9

Robert Henry Johnston was made heir to his brother Ebenezer and to his mother Euphemia, the same day, 26 June 1846. Entries in Scottish American Heirs, 1683-1883 read:
"Number 1194, Johnston, Robert Henry, in Boston USA, heir to bro Ebenezer Cheyne Johnston, s of James Johnston in Boston, reg. 26 June 1846", and
"Number 1195, Johnston, Robert Henry, in Boston USA, heir to mo Euphemia Cheyne or Johnston, w of James Johnston in Boston, reg. 26 June 1846".10
