     Laurence Cheyne Armitage was born, 24 June 1897, in Oldham, Lancashire, England. He was listed in the England Birth Indexes as Lawrence Armitage whose birth was recorded in the third quarter of 1897. Conflicting evidence, however, has his date of birth, as found in my mother's date book, as 22 January 1898.1,2,3,4,5

Laurence Cheyne Armitage was in the household of Ernest Armitage and listed as nephew on the 1901 England Census, at 14 Mottram Road, in Stalybridge, Ashton-Under-Lyne Parish, Lancashire, England. He was 3 years old and born in Oldham Parish. His mother, Lucy Armitage, was also present.2

Laurence Armitage was found on a passenger list, dated 18 April 1914, at New York, New York, USA. He was on a Manifest of Alien Passengers aboard the Cedric, out Liverpool, on 9 April. He was joining, uncle, an unknown person , who resided at 67 Main Street East, Rochester, New York. Rochester was his final destination. He was 17 years of age, single, a clerk and was born in Oldham. His contact in England was his mother, Mrs. Armitage, 5 Hawks (Fold?), Ashton-Under-Lyne.6

Laurence Cheyne Armitage married Carrie May Smith 3 September 1918, in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, USA. He was listed as 25 and born in England. His parents were listed as John and Sarah Mcinroy.7,8

Laurence Armitage was in the household of an unknown person and his wife, Jane Smith, and listed as son-in-law on the 1920 United States Census, at 698 Pennsylvania Avenue, in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, USA. Lawrence was listed as 26 years of age and born in England. His immigration details were missing. He was employed as a draftsman at an auto factory.7

L. C. Armitage was named the sponsor of Ernest Cheyne and Alexander Cheyne on a passenger list on 23 February 1920. He resided at 698 Pennsylvania Avenue, Detroit, Michigan.9

Laurence Cheyne Armitage was named the step-son of Sarah Cheyne on a passenger list on 16 August 1920. He resided at 676 Pennsylvania Avenue, Detroit, Michigan.10

The attached is a postcard photo of Alexander, Margaret and Ernest Cheynes, with Laurence Armitage, taken in the mid 1920s, probably in Detroit.

Laurence Armitage was a witness at the marriage of Gilbert Guymer and Sarah Cheyne, 20 March 1926, in Royal Oak, Oakland, Michigan, USA.11

Laurence Cheyne Armitage and Carrie Armitage were divorced.

Laurence Cheyne Armitage married Hilda Hawkby Crabtree 22 October 1933, in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA. Both normally resided in Flint, Genesse, Michigan.12

He resided at 1212 East Warren Street, Detroit, Michigan, in 1934.

Laurence Cheyne Armitage died 15 January 1966 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, USA.13,14
