John Cheyne

M, #5772, b. circa 1700
FatherUnlinked Cheynes in Aberdeen, 1696-1749
The family that follows had their children born in Ellon. There were no Cheynes in Ellon Parish at the time of the 1696 Poll. Here is how I determined that the subsequent families are of this beginning. A grand-daughter of this John, Ann (5777) died in 1863 and her death record was recorded by her nephew George (5704). From that death record we know her parents were John Cheyne and Ann Thomson. George's father must be a brother to John. This John Cheyne's family in Ellon was the only one I could find that had a John and Alexander of the correct ages.

The baptismal record of John Cheyne documented John Cheyne as the father, 24 May 1730, at Chapelton, in Ellon Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. From the Parish of Ellon Old Parish Register of Baptisms, Page 215 "May 24 (1730) John Cheyn in Chapletown had a Son baptized Called John witneffes Alex'r Matthews and Alex'r Mays both yr".1

The baptismal record of Alexander Cheyne documented John Cheyne as the father, 8 November 1732, at Essilmont, in Ellon Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. From the Parish of Ellon Old Parish Register of Baptisms, Page 224 "Nov'r 8 (1732) John Cheyn in Effemont had a Son baptized Called Alex'r witnefses Alex'r May & Alex'r Matthews both yr".2

The baptismal record of George Cheyne documented John Cheyne as the father, 10 September 1735, at Chapelton, in Ellon Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. From the Parish of Ellon Old Parish Register of Baptisms, Page 235 "Sept'r 10 (1735) John Chein in Chapletown has a Son baptized Called George witnefses John Misler and Alex'r May both there".3

About 1750. Peter Cheyne (7269) was the assumed son of John Cheyne (5772) and brother of John Cheyne (5773).4
