The following is a transcription from the Register of Births, Parish of Gamrie, Volume 3, Village of Macduff, 1820-1854: "Alexander, Lawful Son to Alex'r Cheyne Labourer in Macduff & Jane Allardice his wife was born June 12th & baptized 30th before Witnefses John Allardice ((5680) the child's maternal uncle) & Geo. Innes in Macduff".2,3,1

Alexander Chyne was listed on the 1841 Scotland Census, at South Mildle Street, in Aberchider, Marnoch Parish, Banff, Scotland. He was head of household and a journeyman tailor. He was listed as 20 years of age and born in Banffshire. There were three Chynes on the same street; Jean (7444), page 4; Alexander (5674), page 6; and, Jane (14381), page 7. Their relationships are yet to be determined.4

An entry in Calendar of Confirmations and Inventories, 1881, reads as follows: Cheyne, Margaret, 5 October--Confirmation of Margaret Cheyne, Domestic Servant, sometimes residing in Cullen, Parish of Cullen, County of Banff, who died 12 June 1881, at Laleham House, Middlesex, intestate, granted at Banff, to Alexander Cheyne, Tailor and Clothier, Cullen, Executor dative qua father. Value of Estate £77, 4s. 4d.16

His estate was probated on 19 October 1881.17
