     Alexander Cheyne was baptized in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, 15 February 1841, at Fridayhill, in Strichen Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Strichen, 1820-1854, Page 52, "Feb'y 15th (1841) Alex'r Cheyne (532) & Jean Cardno (558) in Fridayhill had a Son born, named Alexander (565), baptised before Alex'r Shirer.”.1

Jean Cheyne, James G. Cheyne, Jean Cheyne, Agnes Cheyne, Isobel Cheyne and Alexander Cheyne were listed as in the household of Alexander Cheyne on the 1841 Scotland Census, at Fridayhill, in Strichen Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was 3 months old and born in Aberdeenshire.2

Isobel Cheyne, Alexander Cheyne and Agnes Yeats were listed as children in the household of Alexander Cheyne and his wife, Jean Cheyne on the 1851 Scotland Census, at Fridayhill, in Strichen Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was 10 years old, born in Strichen Parish and a scholar.3

Alexander Cheyne is the progenitor of the Cheynes now in Washington and Oregon. His descendants wrote a book, The Highlanders, for the 100th anniversary of his emigration to the United States in October 1882. This book chronicles the descendants of Alexander Cheyne and Jean Cardno.

Alexander was a witness at the marriage of William Ironside and, his sister, Isabella Edington Cheyne, on 19 September 1855 at Fridayhill, at Strichen Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; Established Church of Scotland.4

Alexander Cheyne married Mary Smart McAlley 27 December 1866, in Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland.6,7

He was head of household and a loader of (english and classon?). Also present were his children, Helen Ally Cheyne and Agnes Jane Cheyne. He was 28 years of age and born in Strichen Parish, Aberdeen.8

Alexander Cheyne and his wife Mary Smart Cheyne were listed on the 1881 Scotland Census, at 10 Saint John Street, in Edinburgh, Canongate Parish, Midlothian, Scotland. He was head of household and a teacher. Also present were his children, Helen Shiels Lily McAlley Cheyne, Robert D. Cheyne, Mary Carnegie Cheyne, James Alexander Cheyne and William McAlley Cheyne. In addition, a domestic servant, Annie ROSS was also present.9

Alex Cheyne and Mrs. Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 12 October 1882, at New York, New York, USA. Also present were their children Helen Cheyne, James Cheyne, William Cheyne, Robert Cheyne, Mary Cheyne and Alex Cheyne. They were steerage passengers on the steamship State of Nebraska, out of Glasgow, Scotland and were bound for the USA. The elder Alex was listed as a farmer.10,11,12

Alexander Cheyne and his wife Mary Cheyne were listed on the 1887 Washington Census, in Klickitat, Washington, USA. He was head of household and a teamster. Also present were his children, Nellie Cheyne, James Cheyne, William Cheyne, Robert Cheyne, Mary Cheyne, Alex Cheyne and Isabella Victoria Cheyne. She was listed as 41 years old, born in Scotland and an alien.. He was listed as 41 years old, born in Scotland and an alien.13

Alexander Cheyne and his wife Mary Cheyne were listed on the 1889 Washington Census, in Klickitat, Washington, USA. He was head of household and a farmer. Also present were his children, Nellie Cheyne, James Cheyne, William Cheyne, Robert Cheyne, Mary Cheyne, Alex Cheyne and Bella V. Cheyne. She was listed as 50 years old, born in Scotland and a citizen of the United States.. He was listed as A. Cheyne, 50 years old, born in Scotland and a citizen of the United States.13

Alexander Cheyne was listed as the head of household and as a farmer, on the 1900 United States Census, in Camas Prairie Precinct, Klickitat, Washington, USA. His wife, Mary Smart Cheyne; children, Mary Carnegie Cheyne, Bella V. Cheyne, Alexander B. Cheyne and Nellie Stewart; and grandchildren Earl Stewart and Lawrence Alexander Stewart, were also present. The couple owned their farm with no mortgage. He was a Naturalized US Citizen..11

Alexander Cheyne was in the household of William McAlley Cheyne and listed as father on the 1910 United States Census, in Hartland Precinct, Klickitat, Washington, USA. Also present was his wife, Mary Cheyne (4374).14

Alexander Cheyne died 7 November 1917 in Cottage Grove, Oregon, USA.15
