They were steerage passengers aboard the Metagama out of Glasgow on the 22nd of June. Mary was 28, a housewife, her mother, Mrs. Margaret Whyte, Rockcliffe, Finlayson Street, Fraserburgh was their next of kin in Scotland. They were joining her husband, the children's father, William Cheyne, 5607 Linwood Avenue, Detroit. William was 8, James W. was 7 and Mary Craik was 2. All were listed as born in Duncoon (?), Scotland.2,3

Mary Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 5 July 1937, at Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. She was third class passenger aboard the Athenia, out of Montreal. She was 16, a student and travelling to Rockcliff, Fraserburgh.4

Mary Craik Cheyne and her daughter, Mary Whyte Cheyne, were found on a passenger list dated 12 September 1937, at Quebec, Quebec, Canada. They were passengers aboard the Athenia out of Glasgow on the 3rd of September. The senior Mary was 43, married, a housewife and was born in Dunoon, Scotland, her mother, Mrs. Mary Whyte, Rockcliffe, Finlayson Street, Fraserburgh was their nearest relative in Scotland; Mary junior was 17, single, a student and was born in Fraserburgh. They had resided in Detroit for fourteen years and were returning to their home and husband and father, William Cheyne, 15362 Greenlawn Avenue, Detroit. They had last left the country, 25 June 1937.3
