     Alexander Cheyne was born, 3 February 1881, at 1:20 PM, in Inchgreen, Monquhitter Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.1,2

Anna Bell Cheyne, James Cheyne and Alexander Cheyne were listed as grandchildren in the household of James Cheyne on the 1881 Scotland Census at Inchgreen, in Monquhitter Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was 2 months of age and born in Monquhitter Parish.1

Annie Cheyne, James Cheyne, Alexander Cheyne, Andrew Cheyne, Isabella Cheyne, George Cheyne and Jeannie Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Alexander Cheyne and his wife, Maggie Cheyne on the 1891 Scotland Census, at Inchgreen, in Monquhitter Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was 10 years of age, born in Monquhitter Parish and a scholar.3

The attached is a photo taken at Inchgreen farm, about 1900, of the family of Alexander Cheyne and his wife, Margaret Milne. From left to right back row Jeannie, Andrew Mitchell, Alexander, Anna Bell, George Collie, James and Isabella. In front Alexander, Gladys, Margaret and Alfred William.4

Alexander Cheyne was listed on the 1901 Scotland Census, at 2 Ferryhill Place, in Aberdeen, Ferryhill, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a assistant cashier. Also in the household was his sister, Annie Cheyne. Alexander was listed as 20 years of age and born in Monquhitter Parish.5

Alexander Cheyne immigrated before 1908, to British Columbia, Canada..6

Alexander Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 15 April 1912, at New York, New York, USA. He was a passenger on the ship Carmania, on which he boarded in Liverpool, 6 April 1912. He was listed as a 29, an agent, born in Aberdeen, Scotland and a non immigrant alien. His nearest relative was his father, Alexander, residing in Inchgreen. His destination was Ontario, Canada. He was a British Subject of Scottish race.7

Alexander Cheyne was found on a list of military personnel dated 16 December 1915. He had signed an Attestation Paper joining the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force. He was single, a bookkeeper, resided in Nelson, British Columbia and was born, 3 February 1884, in Aberdeen. He was currently serving in the 60th Rifles and his previous military experience had been 12 years in various forces that were too faint to read. His brother, James Cheyne, Inchgreen, New Deer, Aberdeen, was his next of kin.8

He served his country in World War One. He is mentioned in a book entitled The War Book of Turriff and Twelve Miles Round - A Memorial 1914-1919. His enter reads:
"ALEXANDER CHEYNE
Rancher.
Sergeant in 46th Battalion, Canadians. Served - Flanders, France.
Wounded at Lens on 12th August 1917 and at Passchendaele on 26th October 1917.
Took part in four attacks".9

Alexander Cheyne married Elizabeth Blease.10

Alexander Cheyne was found on a border crossing list entering the United States, 29 October 1937, at Metaline Falls, Pend Oreille, Washington, USA. He was 52, married, a farmer at Erie, British Columbia and born in Aberdeen. His wife Elizabeth was said to have been accompanying him, but her record was not found. This was to be a one week visit.11

Alexander Cheyne and Elizabeth Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 30 April 1950, at Liverpool, Lancashire, England. They were probably the couple found on the passenger list aboard the Franconia, out of Quebec. Their address while in Scotland was Johnshanven, Montrose. He was 69 years of age and retired and she was 59 and a housewife. They did not intend to remain in the UK permanently.12

Alexander Cheyne and Elizabeth Cheyne They probably were the couple found on the passenger list for the Queen Mary. They embarked from Southampton, 6 March 1951 and landed at New York, 11 March 1951. Both were marked as British and "In transit to Canada." He was listed as 70 years of age and married; she, 60 and married.13

Alexander Cheyne and Elizabeth Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 6 September 1954, at Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland. They were tourist class passengers aboard the Empress of Scotland, out of Montreal. Alex was 73 and retired and Elizabeth A. was 64 and a housewife. Their address while in Scotland would be 7 High Street, Lainencekirk (?). Their residence was in Canada and did not intend to remain in Scotland permanently.12

Alexander Cheyne died 1964.10
