Margaret Helen Cheyne trained on the medical and surgical wards of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary 1915-1918. She then undertook a course of training and lectures in midwifery at The Glasgow Royal Maternity and Women's Hospital, Rottenrow 1918-1919, and qualified as a midwife with the Central Midwives Board for Scotland 29th April 1919. Margaret then worked as a district nurse and midwife.9

Margaret Helen Cheyne, Nurse (spinster), 35 years, resident at Knock Croft, Stuartfield, Father: William Cheyne, Draper (dec), Mother: Margaret Cheyne M.S Watson. Warrant of Sheriff substitute of Aberdeen, Kincardine and Banff dated 13th September 1923. Registered 1923 September 17th at Aberdeen. T W Whitchell Assistant Registrar. Extracted from The Register Book of Marriages for the District of St. Nicolas in the Burgh of Aberdeen this 20th day of September 1923".10
