Margaret Helen Cheyne trained on the medical and surgical wards of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary 1915-1918. She then undertook a course of training and lectures in midwifery at The Glasgow Royal Maternity and Women's Hospital, Rottenrow 1918-1919, and qualified as a midwife with the Central Midwives Board for Scotland 29th April 1919. Margaret then worked as a district nurse and midwife.⁹
