Margaret Cheyne

F, #4409, b. circa 1667
FatherUnlinked Cheynes in Aberdeen before the 1696 Poll
The parentage of Margaret is not known. Her marriage to Adam Clark was witnessed by William Cheyne (1515), Keithin and Mr. Adam Hay, in Monquhitter. Mr. Adam Hay was the minister of Monquhitter and at least once jointly witnessed a baptism with George Cheyne (3009). William Cheyne, Keithin, is assumed to be her brother. There was no entry in the 1696 poll for Adam Clark (Clerk) in either Fyvie or Monquhitter. Did they move to another location? Did he die before the poll? There was an entry for Margaret Cheyne, cottarwoman, Mayns of Creichy. However, I believe that Margaret to be (1525). Margaret Cheyne witnessed a baptism for John Watson in Aslead, Monquhitter. That baptism was also witnessed by Alexander Mitchell, who also witnessed with Alexander Cheyne (756) and George Cheyne (3009). Alexander Mitchell was probably of the same Mitchell family that included Patrick Mitchell who married Margaret Cheyne (1531), the younger Margaret's cousin.

Alexander (756), William (1515), Jean (1526), Jean (4414), Samuel (1528), Margaret (4409) and Patrick (4423) Cheynes were probably closely related.1

Margaret Cheyne married Adam Clark 1 August 1693, in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.2
