Cheyne, Mary Carnegie Cheyne, James Alexander Cheyne and William McAlley Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Alexander Cheyne and his wife, Mary Smart Cheyne on the 1881 Scotland Census, at 10 Saint John Street, in Edinburgh, Canongate Parish, Midlothian, Scotland.6

She was listed as 21 years old, born in Scotland and a citizen of the United States.9

She was listed as a widow and retired farmer, age 33. Her children, Earl Stewart and Lawrence Alexander Stewart, were also present.4
