He was listed as nine years of age and born in Hertsford, Herts. The 1891 census placed his birth in Hampshire and that is the birth place used herein.3

Emma C. Cheyne, Beatrice M. Cheyne and Leo Cheyne were listed as children in the household of John Powles Cheyne and his wife, Emma F. Cheyne on the 1881 England Census, at 1 Westgate Terrace, in London, Kensington, Middlesex, England. He was unmarried, age 19, with no occupation listed.4
