Mary H. Whyte, Margaret P. Whyte and Ellen C. Whyte were listed as children in the household of James Whyte and his wife, Mary A. Whyte on the 1901 Scotland Census, at 10 Iona Street, in Leith, Leith South, Midlothian, Scotland. She was 6 years old, born in Dunoon Parish, Argyll and a scholar.3

Mary Hood Whyte married William Cheyne 25 September 1914, in accordance with the procedures of the Congregational Church, at 65 Albert Street, in Fraserburgh, Fraserburgh Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. Mary Hood Whyte was listed on the marriage record as 20 years of age and residing at 65 Albert Street, Fraserburgh, Fraserburgh Parish. Her parents were confirmed to have been as recorded herein.5

Mary H. Cheyne was named the wife of William Cheyne on a passenger list dated 15 October 1922. She resided at 22 Commerce Street, Fraserburgh.6

Mary H. Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 1 July 1923, at Quebec, Quebec, Canada. Also present were their children William Cheyne, James W. Cheyne and Mary Craik Cheyne. They were steerage passengers aboard the Metagama out of Glasgow on the 22nd of June. Mary was 28, a housewife, her mother, Mrs. Margaret Whyte, Rockcliffe, Finlayson Street, Fraserburgh was their next of kin in Scotland. They were joining her husband, the children's father, William Cheyne, 5607 Linwood Avenue, Detroit. William was 8, James W. was 7 and Mary Craik was 2. All were listed as born in Duncoon (?), Scotland.7,6

Mary H. Cheyne and her husband, William Cheyne, were listed on the 1930 United States Census, in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, USA. They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, William Cheyne, James W. Cheyne and Mary C. Cheyne. The family paid rent in the amount of $45 per month.. She and her parents were said to have been born in Scotland. She was not a US citizen.7

Mary H. Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 5 July 1937, at Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. She was a third class passenger aboard the Athenia out of Montreal. She was 43 and a housewife. Her last residence was in the Unite States. She did not intend to remain in Scotland permanently.9

Mary Whyte Cheyne and her daughter, Mary Craik Cheyne, were found on a passenger list dated 12 September 1937, at Quebec, Quebec, Canada. They were passengers aboard the Athenia out of Glasgow on the 3rd of September. The senior Mary was 43, married, a housewife and was born in Dunoon, Scotland, her mother, Mrs. Mary Whyte, Rockcliffe, Finlayson Street, Fraserburgh was their nearest relative in Scotland; Mary junior was 17, single, a student and was born in Fraserburgh. They had resided in Detroit for fourteen years and were returning to their home and husband and father, William Cheyne, 15362 Greenlawn Avenue, Detroit. They had last left the country, 25 June 1937.6

Mary Hood Whyte and her husband, William Cheyne, were listed on the 1940 United States Census, at Greenlawn Avenue, in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, USA. They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, William Cheyne, James Cheyne and Mary Cheyne. The family rented their home. All had resided in the same house in 1935.. She was listed as 45 years of age, born in Scotland and had filed First Papers.10

Mary Whyte Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 3 November 1951, at Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She was a passenger aboard Trans Canada Airlines flight 211-3 out of Preswick. She was 57 and resided at 14877 Stoepel Avenue, Detroit. She held a US Passport.6

Mary H. Cheyne and William Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 22 August 1957, at Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland. They were tourist class passengers aboard the Sylvania, out of Montreal. He was a retired and she a housewife and they were traveling to 8 Strichen Road, Fraserburgh for an eleven week visit. They were United States citizens to where they would return.9

Mary H. Cheyne died 26 November 1986 in Orion, Oakland, Michigan, USA. Her date of death was recorded as 16 November 1986 on her death record.1,11
