     Ann Cheyne was born, about 1813, in Rathen Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. No IGI birth record was found. Most likely, she was an unrecorded daughter of William Cheyne and Christian Henderson. She was probably born in Lonmay, not Rathen. She, and her brothers, James and George were found on 1851 census in Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen.1

Ann Cheyne was listed on the 1841 Scotland Census at Saint Andrew Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was a servant in the household of James Simpson, cooper. She was 25 and born in Aberdeenshire.2

Ann Cheyne and Peter Barclay had their marriage banns read, 15 May 1842, at Invernettie in Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.3

Ann Cheyne married Peter Barclay 28 May 1842, in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, at Invernettie, in Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Marriages, Parish of Peterhead, 1820-1854, Page 133/386, "15th May (1842) Peter Barclay (1348), Miller in Invernettie and Ann Cheyne (3867) both in this parish Married 28th _____ _______ ____ ___.”.4

The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 244, "November 9th (1845) Peter Barclay (1348), Miller, in Peterhead and Ann Cheyne (3867) his wife, had a daughter born 7th Oct'r baptized and named Margaret (1351), before William Barclay and James Smith.”.5

The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 288, "March 1st (1848) Peter Barclay (1348), Miller in Peterhead & Ann Cheyne (3867) his wife had a daughter born 29th Jan'y baptized and named Isabella (1352), before William Robertson and William Barclay.”.6

The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 326, "March 4th (1850) Peter Barclay (1348), Labourer, in Peterhead and Ann Cheyne (3867) his wife had a son born 29th Dec'r 1849 - baptized & named Alexander Bruce (1353), before William Barclay & Peter Johnson.”.7

They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, William Barclay, Margaret Barclay, Isabella Barclay and Alexander Bruce Barclay. She was listed as 37 and born in Rathen Parish.8

Ann Cheyne, in Peterhead, witnessed the christening of her daughter, Jean Barclay, on 7 July 1852, at Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 376, "July 7th (1852) Peter Barclay (1348), Labourer, in Peterhead, and Ann Cheyne (3867), his wife, had a daughter, born 20th June 1851 baptized & named Jean (1354), before James Duncan and Colin Mackay.”.9

Ann Cheyne was listed on a birth record as the mother of Elizabeth Hutton Barclay, 3 December 1855, Saint Andrew Street, Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was further described as 41 years of age, labourer's wife, born in Peterhead, who married Peter, in Peterhead in 1842. Elizabeth Hutton Barclay was her eighth child, with 2 boys and four girls living and one boy dead; at 4 AM.10

Ann Barclay and her husband, Peter Barclay, were listed on the 1861 Scotland Census, at 5 Saint Andrews Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, William Barclay, Isabella Barclay, Alexander Bruce Barclay and Elizabeth Hutton Barclay. She was listed as 47 years of age and born in Rathen Parish.11

Ann Barclay and her husband, Peter Barclay, were listed on the 1871 Scotland Census, at 6 Merchant Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, William Barclay and Betsy Barclay. She was 58 years of age and born in Rathen Parish.12

Ann Cheyne was listed on the 1881 Scotland Census, at 46 Kirk Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was head of household and a housekeeper. Also present was her child, Isabella McWilliam. Also present was an Edward Barclay, grandson, 13, whose parentage is yet to be determined.13

Ann Cheyne was listed on the death record as the mother of the deceased William Barclay who died 14 August 1881; at 5 AM, of phthisis for an unknown time.14
