     James Cheyne was born, about 1808, in Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. No baptismal record was found for a James Cheyne being born in Peterhead Parish in 1808. He was found on the 1851, 1861 and 1871 census returns there and listed as being born in Peterhead and employed as a tailor.1

James Cheyne married Barbara McLeod 27 December 1836, in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, in Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Marriages, Parish of Peterhead, 1820-1854, Page 86/339, "Dec'r 27th (1836) James Cheyne (3770) tailor & Barbara McLeod (3771) both in this parish”.2

James Chyene was listed on the 1841 Scotland Census, at Tolbooth Wynd, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a journeyman tailor. Also in the household were Barbra Chyene and Mary Chyene. He was listed as 30 years of age and born in Aberdeenshire.3

James Cheyne and his wife Barbara Cheyne were listed on the 1851 Scotland Census, at 52 Tolbooth Wynd, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a tailor. Also present was his child, Elizabeth Cheyne. He was listed as 45 and born in Peterhead Parish.4

James Cheyne and his wife Barbara Cheyne were listed on the 1861 Scotland Census, at 17 Erroll Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a master tailor. He was listed as 52 years of age and born in Peterhead Parish.5

James Cheyne was listed as a tailor on the marriage record of his daughter Mary Ann Cheyne and James Lyon, on 27 June 1864; Free Church of Scotland.6

James Cheyne was listed as a tailor on the marriage record of his daughter Elizabeth Cheyne and George McKensie, on 20 March 1870; Church of Scotland.7

James Cheyne and his wife Barbara Cheyne were listed on the 1871 Scotland Census, at 17 Erroll Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a tailor. He was 62 years of age and born in Peterhead Parish.8

James Cheyne died 1 October 1875 at 5 PM, at 40 Marischal Street in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. His death record listed him as seventy five years of age, a tailor and married to Margaret McLeod. The death was recorded by George McKenzie (3012), his son-in-law. His parents were confirmed to have been as herein recorded.9
