Agnes M. Cheyne, Helen Cheyne, Mary Ann Cheyne, Barbara M. Cheyne and Henry Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Henry Cheyne and his wife, Jessie Cheyne on the 1871 Scotland Census, at 65 Barron Street, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was 8 years of age and a scholar.3

Mary A. Cheyne was a boarder in the household of Alexander Nicol and his wife, Agnes Nicol, on the 1881 Scotland Census, at Barron Street, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was listed as 18 years old, born in Newhills Parish and a rag cutter. Agnes Nicol was her sister.4,5

The following are excerpts from several emails received from James Ewan, a grandson of Mary Ann Ewan MS Cheyne. Mary Ann worked in the States prior to her marriage in December 1886...and..."according to my mother (who nursed her through her terminal illness) an incredibly powerful personality. Apparently she worked for a year on the east coast of the USA 'gutting fish' along with a bunch of girls also from Aberdeen. She worked also in Textiles, Domestic service, Fish processing, and she was an Office cleaner for the Caledonian Railway well into her old age".

Mary Ann Cheyne married (?) Ewen December 1886.6,7
