     Henry Cheyne was born, 30 December 1829, in New Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.1

Henry Cheyne was listed on the 1841 Scotland Census at South Kinmundy, in New Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was listed as Harry, age 11, born in Aberdeenshire. He appears to be in the household of Christian Baillet, age 25.2

Henry Cheyne was listed on the 1851 Scotland Census at East Harlaw, in Chapel of Garioch Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was in the household of John Ferguson, farmer of 125 acres. He was 20 years of age, born in New Machar Parish and employed as a farm labourer.3

Henry Cheyne, farm servant, was listed on the death record as the father of the deceased (?) Cheyne, on 5 January 1855; at 8 PM, of croup since 4th to the 5th of January.4

Henry Cheyne married Helen Cadenhead 29 November 1856, in accordance with the procedures of the Free Church of Scotland, at Stoneywood, in Newhills Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The marriage record listed Henry as 26 years of age, a bachelor and farm servant, residing at Greenburn, Newhills Parish. The ceremony was officiated by John E. Graham, Minister of the Free Church and witnessed by James Paterson and Robert Leith. His parents were confirmed to have been as recorded herein.5

Henry Cheyneday labourer and father of the child, recorded the birth of Agnes Marr Cheyne, on 23 August 1857, in Stoneywood, Newhills Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; at 1 AM.6

Henry Cheyne recorded the death of his mother, Isabella Cheyne, on 6 December 1857, at Stoneywood, Newhills Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; at 9 AM, of aneurism of the aorta.7

Henry Cheyne and his wife Helen Cheyne were listed on the 1861 Scotland Census, at Little Clinterty, in Newhills Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a ploughman. Also present were his children, Agnes Cheyne and Helen Cheyne. In addition, her half-sister, Mary Ann Courage, and half brother-in-law, William Courage, listed as a visitor and their children, Barbara Anderson Courage and Mary Ann Elizabeth Courage, were also present.. He was listed as 30 years of age and born in New Machar Parish.8

Henry and Alexander was a witness at the marriage of James Munro and, his sister, Ann Cheyne, on 13 August 1862 at Heatheryfold, at Lonmay Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; Established Church of Scotland.9

Henry Cheyne, day labourer, recorded the birth of his daughter, Barbara Marr Cheyne, on 9 February 1864, in Headend of Stoneywood, Newhills Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; at 12:30 PM.10

Henry Cheyne, day labourer, recorded the birth of his son, Henry Cheyne, on 27 March 1866, in Woodend of Stoneywood, Newhills Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; 12:30 PM.11,12

Henry Cheyne, labourer, recorded the death of his wife, Helen Cheyne, on 14 June 1868, at Brown Street, Woodgate, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; at 10:30 PM, of carcinoma coli for nine months.13

Henry Cheyne married Jessie Forbes 24 September 1869, in accordance with the procedures of the Established Church of Scotland, at 8 Queen Street, Woodside, in Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The marriage record listed him as a 38 year old widower and a quarry labourer, residing at 78 Hadden Street, Aberdeen. His parents were confirmed to have been as herein recorded.14,15

Henry Cheyne and his wife Jessie Cheyne were listed on the 1871 Scotland Census, at 65 Barron Street, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a stone cutter. Also present were his children, Agnes M. Cheyne, Helen Cheyne, Mary Ann Cheyne, Barbara M. Cheyne and Henry Cheyne. He was 40 years of age and born in New Machar Parish.17

Henry Cheyne, residing at 11 Station Street, Woodside, Aberdeen, recorded the death of his father Alexander Cheyne, on 22 February 1874, at 9 Barron Street, Woodside, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; at 9 AM.18

Henry Cheyne and his wife Jessie Cheyne were listed on the 1881 Scotland Census, at Carnation Cottage, Queen Street, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a quarry worker. Also present were his children, Ellen Cheyne, Barbra Cheyne and Henry Cheyne. He was listed as 48 years of age and born in New Machar Parish.19

Henry Cheyne and his wife Jessie F. Cheyne were listed on the 1891 Scotland Census, at 149 Hadden Street, Woodside, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a stone cutter. He was listed as 56 years of age and born in New Machar.20

Henry Cheyne and his wife Jessie F. Cheyne were listed on the 1901 Scotland Census, at 565 Great Northern Road, in Aberdeen, Woodside, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a mason's labourer. Henry was listed as 67 years of age and born in New Machar Parish, Aberdeen.21

Henry Cheyne died 4 October 1910 in Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scotland.22,23

Henry Cheyne was buried, at Grove Cemetery, in Bucksburn, Aberdeen, Scotland. His monumental inscription reads: "Erected by Henry Cheyne in memory of his mother Helen Cadenhead who died 13th Oct. 18860, aged 35 years, '(interred at Newhills)'. His father Henry Cheyne who died 4th Oct. 1910, aged 80 years. Also his step-mother Jessie Forbes who died 10th Aug. 1904, aged 72 years"..24

The following is a transcription of a portion of a letter from Karen Marr to the author received in December 1992:
"Archibald (Marr) and Barbara's (Anderson) son David Finlay Marr, died on 31-5-1925, leaving a will in which he left bequests to the following people-

Helen Cadenhead or Cheyne was married to Henry Cheyne, labourer and she died prior to 4-9-1913; date of David Finlay Marr's will. Henry Cheyne died 4-10-1910, and I have the following two addresses for him: 545 Great Northern Road, Woodside, Aberdeen and 96 Mile end Avenue, Aberdeen. His will was dated 6-4-1906 and gives no mention of his wife Helen Cheyne, therefore I assume she died prior to this date. The children were, and were living at the given addresses at the time of David Finlay Marr's death: Mrs. Agnes Cheyne or Nicol (Deceased between 1910 and 1925), 11 Station Road, Aberdeen, Henry Cheyne, Truster.
