James Cheyne married Isobel Allardyce 1 July 1786, in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, in Methlick Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Marriages, Parish of Methlick, 1696-1819, Page 134 "June 18th (1786) James Cheyne in the parish of Daviot and Isabel Allardice in this parish signified their purpose of marriage consigned pledges &c and were married July 1st". According to the IGI, a James Cheyne in Tarves parish had three children; Barbara; Alexander and Elizabeth. An Isobel and Agnes Cheyne were found on the 1841, 1851 and 1861 Fyvie censuses, listed as being born in Tarves, at this same time period. Isobel's death record, stated that she was the daughter of James Cheyne, master gardener, and Isabel Allardyce. Her stated age would have made her the eldest child, but after the IGI marriage date for James Cheyne and Isabel Allardyce. I have therefore placed all subsequent children of this couple.2
