     Alexander Duguid Cheyne was born, 14 March 1865, in Old Meldrum Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.1

Chyne, Alexander Chyne, William Chyne and John Chyne were listed as children in the household of James Chyne and his wife, Christian Chyne on the 1871 Scotland Census, at 7 Distillery Road, in Old Meldrum, Old Meldrum Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was 6 years of age, born in Old Meldrum Parish and a scholar.2

Alexander Duguid Cheyne, William Cheyne and John Duguid Cheyne were listed as children in the household of James Cheyne and his wife, Christina Cheyne on the 1881 Scotland Census, at 97 Claremont Street, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was also listed as a general clerk '(adv.)', age 16.3

Alexander D. Cheyne (2904) and John Cheyne (2785) were boarders in the household of George Biddolph, accident insurance inspector on the 1891 England Census, at 22 Bowker Street, Broughton, Saint John Parish, Lancashire, England. Alexander was employed as an insurance superintendent; John, an insurance clerk. Both were born in Scotland, no further detail.4

Alexander Duguid Cheyne married Agnes Ingram.5

Alexander Duguid Cheyne and his wife Agnes Cheyne were listed on the 1901 England Census, at 2 Onslow Gardens, in Hornsey Parish, Middlesex, England. He was head of household and a secretary to insurance company. Also present was his son, Alexander Ingram Cheyne. In addition, her brother, John Ingram (11991), woolen manufacturer's agent, age 30, was also present..5

A. D. Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 8 November 1902, at Liverpool, Lancashire, England. He was a passenger aboard the Caronia, out of New York. The details were very limited, his listing only provided: Cheyne, A. D., male, over 12 years and of Scotch race.6

Alexander D. Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 12 February 1905, at New York, New York, USA. He was a passenger aboard the Minnetonka, on which he boarded in London, 2 February 1905. He was listed as a 39, married and a manager. His destination was Toronto. He was a British Subject of Scottish race. He lived in London and was in transit to the Canada Life Insurance Company, in Toronto.7

A. D. Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 19 March 1905, at Liverpool, Lancashire, England. He was a first class passenger aboard the Caronia, out of New York. The details were very limited, his listing only provided: Cheyne, A. D., male, over 12 years and of Scotch race.6

About 1906. George Duguid Cheyne (17159) was the assumed son of Alexander Duguid Cheyne (2904) and Agnes Ingram. His birth was indexed in the 2nd quarter of 1906, in Edmonton District.8

Alexander D. Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 15 February 1906, at Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He was a first class passenger aboard the Ivernia out of liverpool on the 6th of February. He was listed as 40 years of age, married and born in Scotland. He was destined for Toronto, Ontario. His occupation in Scotland was insurance manager. He had not previously been in the United States. He was later found crossing the border from Canada to the United States on 1 March at Buffalo and the 14th of March at Black Rock, New York. Both of these instances stated that he was "In Transit" and had arrived in Boston on the Ivernia.9,10,11

Alexander Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 20 January 1907, at New York, New York, USA. He was a saloon or first class passenger on the ship Campania, on which he boarded in Liverpool. He was listed as a non immigrant alien, who was destined for Toronto's King Edward Hotel, employed as an Insurance Manager. a British Subject of Scottish race.12

His US passenger list information added that he was a citizen of Scotland and resided at 2 Onslaw Gardens, Highgate, Scotland.13,14

He was listed as 44 years of age, manager of insurance, married, his wife's name was Agnes (she was not on board) and born in Old Meldrum, Scotland. He was destined for Toronto's (unreadable) Hotel. He was a British Subject of Scottish race.15

Alexander D. Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 12 December 1909, at Liverpool, Lancashire, England. He was a first class passenger aboard the Baltic, out of New York. He was 44 and a Scot.6

Alexander D. Cheyne and his wife Agnes Cheyne were listed on the 1911 England Census, at Muswell Hill Road, in London, Edmondton, Middlesex, England. He was head of household and a life insurance manager. Also present were his children, Alexander I. Cheyne, Agnes C. Cheyne, George D. Cheyne and Muriel M. Cheyne. Also in the household were two domestic servants.. He was listed as 46 years old and born in Old Meldrum Parish, Aberdeenshire.16

Alexander Duguid Cheyne and Agnes Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 5 November 1911, at Quebec, Quebec, Canada. They were aboard the Megantic out of Liverpool and listed as Alexander D. and Mrs. Cheyne. He had been to Canada "many times" and this was her first visit. Both were born in Scotland and destined for Toronto.17

A. D. Cheyne and Agnes Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 2 July 1913, at Liverpool, Lancashire, England. They were first class passengers aboard the Megantic, out of Montreal. He was only listed as A. D. Cheyne and she as Mrs. Cheyne. Their residence was in Scotland.6

Alexander Duguid Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 23 January 1915, at New York, New York, USA. He was a saloon or first class passenger aboard the Lusitania, on which he boarded in Liverpool, 16 January 1915. He was listed as 49 years and 10 months of age, life insurance manager, married, his wife's name was Mrs. Cheyne, residing at Brabourne Haugh, Mill Hill, Middlesex (she was not on board) and born in Aberdeen, Scotland. He was destined to the Canada Life Insurance Company, Toronto, Ontario. He was a British Subject of Scotch race. Similar information was found on Canadian forms except his place of birth was listed as England and that he was a member of the Church of England.18,19

Alexander Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 15 February 1915, at Liverpool, Lancashire, England. He was a first class passenger aboard the Franconia, out of New York. He was 50. His occupation was illegible. He resided at Brabourne Haugh, Mill Hill, Middlesex.6

Alexander Duguid Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 16 January 1916, at New York, New York, USA. He was a saloon or first class passenger aboard the Nieuw Amsterdam, on which he boarded in Falmouth, 7 January 1916. He was listed as 51 years of age, manager, married, his wife's name was Mrs. A. D. Cheyne, residing at Mill Hill, England (she was not on board) and born in Aberdeen, Scotland. He was destined to meet friends at the Canada Life Insurance Company, Toronto, Ontario. He was a British Subject of Scotch race.20,21

Alexander Duguid Cheyne was found on a passenger list, dated 18 December 1918, at Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. He was a passenger aboard the Melita, out of Liverpool. He was listed as 53, married and born in Scotland. He was marked "tourist"destined from Toronto and the Canadian Life Insurance Company, King Street. He intended to stay in Canada three weeks.22

Alexander Duguid Cheyne, residing in Edinburgh were named as the parents of an unknown person , who died in action, on 19 October 1942 and was buried at Sai Wan War Cemetery, near Hong Kong; during World War II.23

Alexander Duguid Cheyne died 1946 in Edinburgh, Morningside, Midlothian, Scotland.24
