     Dorothy Cooper Chiene was baptized, 18 May 1850, in Edinburgh, Saint Cuthberts Parish, Midlothian, Scotland. George Todd Chiene, C. A ., was named the father of Dora Chiene, who married Sir Henry Cheyne of Girlsta (Shetland), The Cheyne Family in Scotland, A. Y. Cheyne, page 112.
Also A History of the Society of Writers to Her Majesty's Signet, page 38, "Cheyne, Harry, of Girlesta. Apprentice to, and son of, Henry Cheyne, W.S.. Born 2d March 1845. Mar. 20th July 1876, Dora, daughter of George Todd Chiene, C.A., Edinburgh".2

She was 11 years of age, born in Edinburgh and a scholar.4

Dorothy Cooper Chiene was in the household of Elizabeth M. Chiene and listed as sister-in-law on the 1871 British Census, in Edinburgh, Saint George Parish, Midlothian, Scotland. Dorothy C. Chiene was 21 years old, born in Edinburgh and a C.A.'s daughter.5

Dorothy Cooper Cheyne married Henry Cheyne 20 July 1876.6,7

Harry and Dora were mentioned in Zetland Family Histories. Their entry reads "Harry (Cheyne) of Girlsta, born 2nd March, 1845, admitted Writer to the Signet, 1868, married, 20th July, 1876, Dora daughter of George Todd Cheine, C.A., Edinburgh, and has issue, Harry ... and Dora ...".7

They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, Dora Cheyne and Harry Cheyne. Dora was listed as 41 years of age and born in Edinburgh.9

Dora Cheyne and her husband, Harry Cheyne, were listed on the 1901 Scotland Census, at 4 Moray Place, in Edinburgh, Saint George Parish, Midlothian, Scotland. They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, Dora Cheyne and Harry Cheyne. She was listed as 51 years of age and born in Edinburgh.10

Dora Cheyne and Harry Cheyne was granted the probate of the estate of the deceased, Harry Cheyne, 23 February 1916. The will of Harry Cheyne was proved 23 February 1916. An abstract of it reads: Cheyne Harry of 4 Moray Place Edinburgh died 27 November 1915 Confirmation of Dora Cheyne widow and Harry Cheyne and Ian MacIntyre Writers to the Signet. Sealed London 23 February"..11

An entry in Calendar of Confirmations and Inventories, 1917, reads as follows: Cheyne, Harry, W.S., 9 Hill Street, and late of 4 Moray Place, Edinburgh, died 27 November 1915, at Edinburgh, testate. Eik to Confirmation granted at Edinburgh, 6 January, to Dora Cheyne, 4 Moray Place, Edinburgh, his widow, and Harry Cheyne, his son, and Ian MacIntyre, both Writers to the Signet, 9 Hill Street there, Executors nominated in Will or Deed, dated 22 November 1915, and recorded in Court Books of Commissariot of Edinburgh, 2 February 1916. Value of Additional Estate £681, 16s. 6d. Original Confirmation granted 3 February 1916". Also a hand written entry followed: "Second Eik granted 5 June 1922".12

Dora Chiene Cheyne, residing in Edinburgh, were named the parents of Harry Cheyne, who died in action on 10 July 1917, and was buried at Dickebusch New Military Cemetery, near Ypres, Belgium; during World War I.13,14,15,16,17
