Arthur Cheyne was baptized, 18 April 1844, in Northmavine Parish, Shetland Islands, Scotland.4

John Cheyne, William Cheyne, Arthur Cheyne, Henry Cheyne, Joseph G. Cheyne and Margaret Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Henry Cheyne and his wife, Barbara Cheyne on the 1851 Scotland Census, at 6 Royal Terrace, in Leith, Leith South, Midlothian, Scotland. He was a scholar.6

Harry Cheyne, Arthur Cheyne, Joseph G. C. Cheyne, Margaret Cheyne and Anne Cheyne were listed as children in the household of Henry Cheyne and his wife, Barbara Cheyne on the 1861 Scotland Census, at 6 Royal Terrace, in Leith, Leith South, Midlothian, Scotland. He was a student.7

Arthur Cheyne was found in the household of Albert Mercer on the 1871 England Census, at London, Paddington, Middlesex, England. He was listed as age 27, born in Scotland, and employed as a merchant's clerk.8

Arthur Cheyne married Frances Ellen Georina Gordon 28 June 1883, in accordance with the procedures of the Church of England, in London, Bayswater, Saint Peter Parish, England. They were married in the parish church after banns. He was a bachelor, gentleman and resided in Saint Peter Parish.9,10,11

He was found on a Register of Electors in Hammersmith Borough, London, for all years 1890 to 1900 residing at a dwelling-house at 14 Sinclair Gardens.12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22

Arthur Cheyne and his wife Frances E. G. Cheyne were listed on the 1891 England Census, at 14 Sinclair Gardens, in Hammersmith, London, England. He was head of household and a Secretary of Steam Ship Company. In addition,two domestic servants were also present.23

Arthur and Frances were mentioned in Zetland Family Histories. Their entry reads "Arthur (Cheyne), merchant, London, born 1st January, 1844, died 20th April, 1900, married 28th June, 1883, Frances, third daughter of Donald Macleod Gordon, merchant, Calcutta. She was born 27th March, 1849, but had no issue".10

Arthur Cheyne died 20 April 1900 at 14 Sinclair Gardens in Hammersmith, London, England. His obituary reads: "At 14 Sinclair Gardens, London, on the 20th instant, Arthur Cheyne, second surviving son of the late Henry Cheyne of Tangwick, W.S., Edinburgh". (Shetland Times 28/4/1900).24,25

His estate was probated on 13 June 1900 at London, England.26
