      Margaret Cheyne, servant, in the household of Mr. Richard Irvine of Carnefield (in Lumphanan) was found on the List of Pollable Persons in Aberdeenshire 1696. The entry reads as follows: "Mr. Richard Irvine of Carnefield, pollable for himselfe in the countrie, but his family in Aberdein, for his lady, Mary Aidie his nice; servants, Isobell Leslie, fee £16 yearly; Marjorie Smith and Margrat Cheyne, 16 merks each... £2 8s 8d".1
