John Harrison Cheyne died 9 October 2013 in Loveland, Larimer, Colorado, USA. His obituary originally published in the Loveland Reporter-Herald edition of 16 October 2013 and found at Legacy.com reads: "John 'Jack' Harrison Cheyne, 78, of Loveland, Colorado passed away on October 9th 2013 after a two and a half year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Jack passed away surrounded by loving family members as they walked him to the gates of heaven peacefully in his home. Jack was born and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In Iowa he met Margaret Swassing, his high school sweetheart and they married on June 25th 1955. He attended Tarkio College from 1955-1956 prior to his enlistment into the U.S. army. Jack was sent to the Philippines after basic training. Maggie later joined him for a year and a half. They then returned to Tarkio College in 1959 where he finished with a degree in teaching. Jack later received his master's degree in teaching at UNC in Greeley, Colorado. Jack and Maggie moved to Loveland, Colorado and Jack started his teaching career at Loveland High School in 1962 (now known as Bill Reed Middle School). Jack's career consisted of 35 years of teaching, counseling, and football coaching/training where he considered himself an "almost doc." He started at Loveland High School teaching history. When Thompson Valley High School was built in 1976, Jack began teaching psychology. Jack touched so many lives in his daily counseling sessions, and this was shown even two weeks before he passed while talking to the "kids" from the class of 1963 and 67 about each ones memories and lives. Jack enjoyed many things throughout his great life. His favorite activity was eating breakfast with his daughters, wife, grandkids, and friends. Jack also enjoyed driving his Harley motorcycle to Sturgis and driving west watching the sunset. Some of Jack's fondest memories came from his painting days with Frank Javernick at C&J Painting, however he enjoyed taking coffee breaks the most. He also loved going to the gym to work out, even with his oxygen in tow, to keep his body in as good of shape as his soul. His love for antique shopping and selling, "antiquing," at the Bean and Bean was great, almost as great as his excitement to start his own Homestead Antique Barn sells. Jack is survived by his wife Maggie (Margaret) of 58 years, as well as His daughters and their husbands; Pam & Gregg White of Falmouth Cornwall, England, Amy & Dean Calhoun of Broomfield, Colorado, and Meg & Tim Dyer of Loveland, Colorado, Jack's brother Bill and wife Charlene of Aurora, Colorado, Jack's granddaughters; Ashley and Annie, and Jack's grandsons Corey, Shane, and Austin, and also his nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his sister Nancy, his parents Allison "Bud" and Helen Cheyne. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday October 19th 2013 at Life Spring Church, 743 south Dotsero Drive, Loveland, Colorado. Following the service there will be pancakes and coffee, Jack's favorite meal to talk about and solve life's problems.
