John was mentioned in Zetland Family Histories. His entry reads "John Cheyne of Esslemont and Tangwick, was served heir to his grandfather, on 8 October 1634. He had a grant of lands in Cullivoe, from James Scott of Voesgarth, and Janet Pitcairn, his spouse, 23rd August, 1655, and died before 1660. He married Marjorie, daughter of Alexander Bruce of Cultmalindie, and had issue; George, his heir; Andrew of Havera; and, Patrick".3
