Patrick Cheyne 9th of Essilmont was documented in A. Y. Cheyne, The Cheyne Family in Scotland, on pages 66, 88 and 90-97.1
In 1594, Patrick Chene of Essilmont (2267) sold to a servitor, Robert Chene (4117), the mill lands of Mikle Auchry. [N.B.] The parentage of this Robert Cheyne is unknown.2
Patrick Cheyne 9th of Essilmont married Magdalen Fraser.3
On 25th June 1600 John Cheyne of Fortrie purchased the lands and barony of Esslemont, etc., from Patrick Cheyne. (Antiq., IV., p. 674.).4
"In October (1600), with the permission of John Chene of Petfichie (2390), he (Patrick of Essilmont) sold to Henry, son of Alexander Annand of Auchterellon, the lands of Orchartoun occupied by William Chene. [Reg. Mag. Sig.]". That William was probably (2253), who was the uncle of Patrick of Essilmont (2267); Henry Annand was Patrick's nephew.
There was a sasine dated 8 December 1600, that involved Patrick Cheyne of Essilmont, John Cheyne of Petfichie and William Cheyne in Orchartson. That sasine probably was a result of the above.5,6
James Cheyne (2162) in Pitsligo and James Chene in Petillie (4121) were in 1606 bound over not to commuicate with Patrck Cheyne of Essilmont (2267). [Ed. note] The parentage of both of the James' is not known.7

A William Chene (4122), indweller in the parish of 'Drumblait' was called before the Kirk Session of Ellon Parish and accused of slandering Magdalen Fraser, widow of Patrick Chene of Essilmont (2267). [Ed. note] The parentage of William Cheyne is not known.10
