John Spear Gervan and his wife Mary S. Burns were listed on the 1901 Ireland Census, at House 10, in Ballygawley, County Tyrone, Ireland. He was head of household and a hotel keeper. Both John and Mary were members of the Old Church of Ireland and could read and write. Also present were, their grandson, John Doand Cheyne, and three house servants.. He was listed as 60 years old and born in County Tyrone.1

John Spear Gervan, merchant, was named the recipient of the will of a Margaret Moore, who died the previous 17th of December (relationship, if any, is unknown). The abstract reads:'Effects: £15 11s. 3d. Letters of Administration of the personal estate of Margaret Moore late of Ballygawley County Tyrone
Married Woman who died 17 December 1905 were granted at Armagh to John Spear Gervan Merchant".3

John Spear Gervan and his wife Mary Gervan were listed on the 1911 Ireland Census, at House 17, Grange, in Ballygawley, County Tyrone, Ireland. He was head of household and a farmer. Both John and Mary were members of the Church of Ireland and could read and write. They was listed as having been married for 43 years and she had five children with four still alive. Also present was a house servant.. He was listed as 70 years old and born in County Tyrone.2

John Spear Gervan died 10 July 1912 at 37 Eglantine Avenue in Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland.4

An abstract of the probate of John Spear Gervan, dated 16 September 1912, reads: "Effects £1,992 1s. 5d. Probate of the Will of John Spear Gervan late of Grangemount, Grange, Ballygawley, County Tyrone, Esquire J.P. who died 10 July 1912 at 37 Eglantine Avenue Belfast granted at Armagh to Francis Carlile, Samuel B.
Sandiford and Samuel D. Cheyne Merchants".3
