James Cheyne

      A James Cheyne declared himself to be a vagrant and gave himself up to be a prisoner before the Magistrate's Court at River Hutt, 29 November 1875. He had previously been employed as a lawyer's clerk and a clerk to a superintendent. That James may have unnamed Cheyne (20906) or his father (20904).1,2

An article in the Southland Times dated 18 November 1879 described the trial of a James Cheyne accused of horse theft. That James probably was either James (995) or (20964) Cheyne.3
