Robert Donaldson Cheyne was born, about 1859, in New Zealand. The names of his parents were not included on his birth record.1
There were two Cheyne birth recorded in 1859, neither of which included the name of either parent. One was for Robert Donaldson Cheyne and the other for James Alexander Cheyne. The 5th on November 1859 issue of the Hawke's Bay Herald included a birth announcements of a son to Mrs. Cheyne, in Hawkhill, near Napier. Peter Cheyne was a Commissioner for Napier County. He probably was the father. But it is unknown which was his probable son.2
