He was among a group marked "Saloon Passengers for Canada" and "British Bonus Allowed", 22 years old, single, a farmer, born in Scotland, residing in Lanark and destined for Winnipeg. He may have been travelling with an Alexander Dawson whose was listed in the entry above James' with identical information.3

James Cheyne was found on a border crossing list entering the United States, December 1907, at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He was 26, single, Scotch and in transit to Scotland. He had not previously been in the United States. He had originally landed in Montreal, in June 1903 aboard the Sicilian.2

He was 25, single, a teamster, born in New Machar, Scotland, residing in Winnipeg and joining a friend, James Henry, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He had originally landed in Saint John, in April of 1908 aboard the Empress of Britain.2

James Cheyne died 7 October 1971 at 419 Olive Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. His obituary on the Winnipeg Free Press, Friday, October 8, 1971, page 29, column 2 reads: "JAMES CHEYNE On October 7, 1971, James Cheyne, aged 91 years, passed away at the residence of Dennis and Fay Townsend, 419 Olive Street. Funeral service will be held in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, Broadway at Furby, Saturday, October 0 at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. A. R. MacIver officiating. Interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Courtesy parking west of the funeral chapels, Mr. Cheyne was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and lived in Winnipeg since 1904. He served overseas during the First World War with the C.E.F. Mr. Cheyne was employed with the T. Eaton Company for thirty-five years, retiring in 1946".5

James Cheyne was buried at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.6
