They were steerage passengers aboard the Empress of Ireland out of Liverpool. John was listed as 50 years of age and had previously been in Canada for seven years and had been a farmer for thirty years. Sophia was 50. All were born in Scotland of Scottish race and were Presbyterians. They were destined for North Battleford, Saskatchewan via the Canadian Pacific Railway.1
