     Adam McCheyne Writer to the Signet was born, 17 January 1781, in Morton Parish, Dumfries, Scotland. No IGI birth record was found.1,2,3

Adam McCheyne married Lockhart Murray Dickson 31 October 1802, in Dumfries Parish, Dumfries, Scotland.4

Adam McCheyne listed on the 1841 Scotland Census, at 20 Hill Street, in Edinburgh, Saint Luke Parish, Midlothian, Scotland. He was head of household and a Writer to the Signet. Also in the household were Lockhart Murray McCheyne, Elizabeth Mary McCheyne and William Oswald Hunter McCheyne. Also present was a domestic servant, Agnes Sinclair.. He was listed as 61 years of age and born in Scotland.5

Adam McCheyne and his wife Lockhart Murray McCheyne were listed on the 1851 Scotland Census, at 24 Maitland Street, in Edinburgh, Saint Cuthberts Parish, Midlothian, Scotland. He was head of household and a Writer to the Signet. Also present was his child, Elizabeth Mary McCheyne. Also present were, John Pearce, 12, grandnephew and a domestic servant. He was 71 years old and born in Morton Parish.2

He was found on two entries in the Edinburgh, Scotland Almanac, 1853.
In Part 4, he was on listed as a member of the Society of Writers to Her Majesty's Signet, he was under the year 1814, as A. M'Cheyne, commissioner. 1814 may have been the year he was admitted into the Society.
In Part 5, he was listed on the Certificated Writers to the Signet, &c. as M'Cheyne, Ad, W.S., 24 Maitland Street, Edinburgh.6

Adam McCheyne died 24 February 1854.7
