Jane Pirie and Patrick Cheyne had their marriage banns read in the procedures of the Church of Scotland, 12 August 1854 in Turriff Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Marriages, Parish of Turriff, 1820-1854, Page 167/576 "On the twelveth day of August eighteen hundred and fifty four Patrick Cheyne (1597) and Jane Pirie (1601) both in this parish were contracted in order to be married and married on the fifteenth day”..4

Jane Pirie, tailor's wife and mother of John Pirie Robison Cheyne, who was born on 8 September 1855, in Turriff, Turriff Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was further described as 32 years of age, born Headlands of Lathers, Turriff Parish, Aberdeen and married Patrick Cheyne, 1854, in Village of Turriff, Turriff Parish. John Pirie Cheyne was her first child.2,5

They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, John P. R. Chyne, Patrick Chyne and Fredrick Chyne. Living at the same address, 4 entries earlier, was the family of his sister, Mary and George Wilson, also a tailor.. She was 38 years old and born in Turriff Parish.1

They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, John Cheyne, Patrick Cheyne, Frederick Cheyne, Ann S. Cheyne and Alexander Cheyne.6

An entry in Calendar of Confirmations and Inventories, 1876, reads as follows: 21 December--Inventory of Patrick Cheyne, Merchant and Clothier, Turriff, who died 20 October 1876, at Turriff, testate, given up at Aberdeen, by Jane Pirie or Cheyne, Turriff, his widow, Executrix nominated in Will or Deed dated 30 September 1876, and recorded with another Writ in Court Books of Commissariot of Aberdeen, 21 December 1876. Value of Estate £10,803, 6s. 6d.7

An entry in Calendar of Confirmations and Inventories, 1877, reads as follows: 9 January--Confirmation of Patrick Cheyne, Merchant and Clothier, Turriff, who died 20 October 1876, at Turriff, testate, granted at Aberdeen, to Jane Pirie or Cheyne, his widow, Executrix nominated in Will or Deed dated 30 September 1876, and recorded in Court Books of Commissariot of Aberdeen, 21 December 1876. Inventory recorded 21 December 1876. Value of Estate £10,803, 6s. 6d.8 Jane Cheyne witnessed the probate of the estate of Patrick Cheyne on 19 March 1877 at London, England.9

Also present was her child, Ann S. Cheyne. Also present was her sister, Catherine Pirie, and a domestic servant. Jane was 68 years of age and born in Turriff Parish.11

Jane Pirie was listed on the 1901 Scotland Census, at 37 Main Street, in Turriff, Turriff Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was head of household and a living on own means. Also present were, her grandson, James Patrick Cheyne, and sister, Catherine Pirie who was listed as boarder. Both Jane and Catherine were 78 and born in Turriff.12

Jane Pirie died 4 May 1905 in Turriff, Turriff Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.13,14
