     Nellie Cheyne was born, 26 June 1886, in Kintore Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. Helen Cheyne (15916) was the illegitimate daughter of a James Cheyne, farm servant at Saint John's Well, Fyvie and Christina Simpson, domestic servant. Her marriage record will add that her father (at that time, 1915) was James Cheyne, Police Sergeant. It is possible that her father was James Cheyne (2882), who is the only known policeman of that name and time.1,2,3

Helen Cheyne was a boarder in the household of Margaret Ramsay on the 1891 Scotland Census at Hill of Kintore, in Kintore Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. Hellen Cheyne was 4 years of age and born in Kintore Parish. Hellen's mother was a Christina Simpson. Margaret Ramsay's maiden name was Simpson. Margaret probably was an aunt or other close relative.2

Nellie Cheyne was listed on the 1901 Scotland Census at Easter Logie Aulton, in Auchterless Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was a servant on the farm of James Ewen. She was 14 years of age, born in Kintore Parish, Aberdeen and a domestic servant.1

Helen Cheyne and her future husband, James Bunyan, were servants in the household of Edward Hugh Leycester Penrhyn on the 1911 England Census, at The Cedars, Sheen Lane, in Mortlake Parish, Surrey, England. She was listed as 24 years of age, single, a kitchen maid and born in Rothie Norman, Aberdeenshire. He was listed as 29 years of age, single, a groom and born in Tuddenham Parish, Suffolk.4

Nellie Cheyne married James Bunyan 1 August 1915, in Wandsworth, London, Surrey, England. She was 29, a spinster domestic servant, residing at 1 Colinette Road, Putney.5
