Sophia Anderson was listed on the 1871 Scotland Census at Cairnorrie, in Methlick Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. Sophia was a domestic servant in the household of William Lowe, farmer of 55 acres. She was listed as 16 years old and born in Longside Parish. The farm was indexed as Cannowie, but probably was Cairnorrie.4

Sophia Cheyne and her husband, John Cheyne, were listed on the 1901 Scotland Census, at Drums Cottage, in Foveran Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. They were listed as the head of household and wife. Also present listed as their children were, Mary Bella Cheyne, John Gordon Cheyne, William Cheyne, Sophia Cheyne and Edward Cheyne. Also present were, her granddaughter, Sophia McDonald Melvin, and mother, Ann Anderson.. Sophia was 44 years of age and born in Longside Parish, Aberdeen.2

James Cheyne (19008) may have been he grandson of John Cheyne and Sophia Anderson.10

Sophia Cheyne and John Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 8 June 1912, at Quebec, Quebec, Canada. Also present were their children Mary Cheyne, William Cheyne, Sophia Cheyne, Edward Cheyne, Annie Cheyne and James Cheyne. They were steerage passengers aboard the Empress of Ireland out of Liverpool. John was listed as 50 years of age and had previously been in Canada for seven years and had been a farmer for thirty years. Sophia was 50. All were born in Scotland of Scottish race and were Presbyterians. They were destined for North Battleford, Saskatchewan via the Canadian Pacific Railway.10
