Cheyne on the 1891 Scotland Census, at 62 Bon Accord, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. Douglas was1 year old and born in Aberdeen.1

Cheyne on the 1901 Scotland Census, at 1 Bon Accord Square, in Aberdeen, Holburn, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. Douglas as listed as 10 years of age, born in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and a scholar.5



Douglas Gordon Cheyne was listed in The Medical Register of the United Kingdom, 1915 and 1919 as having first registered on 9 November 1910. He graduated M.B., Ch. B., 1910, from Aberdeen University. He resided at his father's address, 1 Bonaccord Square, Aberdeen on both entries.6

Douglas Gordon Cheyne recorded the death of his father, Walter Smith Cheyne, who died 19 August 1923 at 1 Bon Accord Square, Aberdeen, Holburn, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; at 2:10 AM of acute lobar pneumonia.7

Douglas Gordon Cheyne married Helen Mary Lawrence 20 December 1927, in accordance with the procedures of the Church of England, at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, in Shanghai, Kiangsu Province, China. He was listed as 38 years of age, a bachelor, a major R. A. M. C. and residing in Shanghai. His father was Walter Smith Cheyne, deceased. The attached is a wedding photo of the couple.8,9

Then WW2 medals. The Africa Star has the !st Army Clasp covering the campaign from Algiers to Tunis and the Oak Leaf denotes a " Mention in Despatches ". The last but one is the Order of Malta. Finally we have the Insignia of Officer of the U.S.Legion of Merit. Also attached is his US Legion of Merit citation.13

The attached are images of the citations for his MC and CBE.14

Douglas Gordon Cheyne died 24 June 1966 at Queen Alexandra Military Hospital in London, England.15,16
