     James Cheyne was born, about 1682.

William Cheyne and his wife, Helen Black, and their son, James were found at Badichell, Fyvie Parish in the List of Pollable Persons in Aberdeenshire 1696. He was a yeoman tennant of the Laird of Meldrum. There was much witnessing of baptisms and marriages between him and his immediate neighbours. His entry reads as follows: "William Cheyn, in Badiechell, yeaman, tennent [no trade], his proportion of the valued rent is 2s 4d, which, with the generall poll ... 8s 0d.
"Helen Black, his spouse ... 6s 0d.
"James Cheyne, his son, under sixteen years of age, in familia, [not pollable] ... 0s 0d.
"BLACHRIE.
"James Petrie (4632), yeaman, tennent [no trade], his proportion of the valued rent effeirand to his duty, is 3s Scots, which, with the generall poll ... 9s 0d.
"Barbara Cassie (5042), his spouse ... 6s 0d.
"George Petrie (5040), yeaman, tennent ther [no trade], his proportion of the valued rent effeirand to his duty, is 3s. Scots, which, with the generall poll ... 9s 0d.
"Elspet Grieve (5041), his spouse ... 6s 0d.
"William Petrie (4635), yeaman, tennent ther [no trade], his proportion of the valued rent effeirand to his duty, is 2s 4d Scots money, which, with the generall poll ... 8s 4d.

"George Bruce (4628), yeaman, tennent ther [no trade], his proportion of the valued rent effeirand to his duty, is 7s Scots, which, with the generall poll ... 13s 0d.

"William Gabriell (4638), yeaman, tennent ther [no trade], his proportion of the valued rent effeirand to his duty, is 7s Scots, which, with the generall poll ... 13s 0d.
"Margaret Bruce (4104), his spouse ... 6s 0d".1

The children that follow this James are speculation. There was no marriage of a James Cheyne during that time period on the IGI in Aberdeenshire.

The baptismal record of Jannet Cheyne documented James Cheyne, in Newmilne, as her father, 12 July 1718, at Newmilne, in Auchterless Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. From the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Auchterless 1680-1758, Page 59 "July 12th (1718) James Chein in Newmiln had a Child baptized named Jannet witnefses George Dyce in (Moat?) and William Peter in (Brigend?)".

The baptismal record of Robert Cheyne documented James Cheyne, in Brucles, as his father, 24 April 1726, at Brucles, in Auchterless Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. From the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Auchterless 1680-1758, Page 79 "April 24th (1726) James Chein in Brucles had a Child baptized named Robert before the Congregation".2

James Cheyne witnessed the christening of his grand-nephew, Robert Cheyne, on 29 January 1738, at Fetterletter at Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1685-1764, Page 27/217 "January 29 (1738) Alex'r Chein in ffetterletter had a child baptized called Rot. witnefses Wm Sclate and James Chein (1517) (Granduncle).".3
